2010 AGA and Conference

Foundations in Europe: A conversation with the institutions

2 - 4 June | Square Brussels Meeting Centre

Mont des Arts 22 | 1000 Brussels | Belgium

Entitled “Foundations in Europe: A conversation with the institutions”, the EFC 2010 conference will bring together some 500 participants to discuss the role of foundations in the European project, their relations with the institutions, and how to facilitate the further development of the sector for the benefit of Europe and its citizens.

The emphasis of this year’s event is to engage in a conversation with the EU on issues of mutual concern. The conference days offer an exclusive space for foundation representatives, EU policy and decision makers to network and to discuss issues that are of immediate and common interest. The programme will include a total of 20 sessions dealing with some key operational and programmatic topics.

The conference will also feature a special plenary debate on governance, as well as the EFC Annual Photo Competition and Raymond Georis Prize.

Special Plenary - The European Game Plan

With the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty on 1 December 2009, hopes are high that the European Union has entered into a new era, one which will see a transformation in the functioning of the Union so that it is better equipped to serve citizens across the 27 Member States. The Treaty also makes provisions to enable Europe to speak with a united voice and with greater influence on the international stage and to address more coherently external relations and the global challenges of the 21st century. But making a stronger Europe both at home and away will require the contributions of many stakeholders, including foundations. The Treaty therefore presents foundations with an important opportunity to reflect upon their place within this changing framework. The plenary will hear varying perspectives on the road ahead for Europe and the role that European foundations can play in moving not only the European project forward but also tackling important global issues.
