Background
The European Learning Lab is a collaborative learning event between the EFC and Fondazione Cariplo. It offers foundation programme and project managers opportunities to share and exchange knowledge of foundation practices; learn about new tools, techniques and approaches to enhance current foundation practices and processes; and identify benchmarking opportunities that allow organisations to compare practices and reflect upon and improve processes. 

2012 Lab - The Value of Evaluating

The 2012 Lab will, as usual, be held at Fondazione Cariplo in Milan. The two Modules will be held in May and September. The 2012 Lab is based on the premise that requisite for both organisational development within a foundation, as well as gaining trust externally, is an open learning culture, coupled with the documentation of measures taken and their ensuing impacts. Yet over the past several years, as the pressure has built on foundations and the partners they fund to evaluate more, the variety of tools at hand to assess and communicate impact have similarly mushroomed.

Choosing the right tool however and getting started can be bewildering. There is so much technical talk associated with the field that many foundations who are contributing toward a public good are not sure which tool suits their purposes best. Foundations working on deep rooted inequalities in society note that concepts like community empowerment are hard to fit in a log-frame. Can you always measure what counts?  The 2012 European Learning Lab aims to assist foundation staff in answering these and other questions foundations have about evaluation.
