The growing number of organisations active in capacity building in Europe has prompted the EFC to take on the role of a coordination centre. The aim is to inform, convene and enable efforts to construct and maintain a Europe-wide capacity building infrastructure.

The EFC acts through:

• partnership building and joint ventures with national and Europe-wide institutions
• coordinating, facilitating, actively participating or promoting capacity building initiatives
• building networks across Europe of mutual support between people with similar functions within foundations
• supporting alumni networks of individuals who have participated in EFC capacity building activities
