Background
The process for the establishment of the Group started in 2007 with a mapping of the grants of major environmental funders in Europe. The mapping project led to a collaboration with the US-based Environmental Grantmakers Association, the Britain’s Environmental Funders Network, the Canadian Environmental Grantmakers Network and the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network, to develop a common taxonomy for environmental philanthropy, improve information sharing and linkages between funders across the world.
