The European Commission is seeking views from interested parties on EU policy developments and actions. These public consultations offer EFC members an opportunity to contribute to the definition of future EU priorities.

- The EU Corporate Governance Framework. The Commission has adopted a Green Paper on corporate governance in Europe which launches a public consultation on possible ways forward to improve existing corporate governance mechanisms. The Green Paper contains three chapters: boards, shareholders and the comply-or-explain principle. The objective of the Green Paper is to have a broad debate on the issues raised. Initiative on access of third countries to the EU's public procurement market. Through international commitments (WTO Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) and bilateral/regional FTAs), the EU advocates an ambitious opening of international public procurement markets and has committed itself to granting market access to its public procurement market for certain foreign goods, services and companies. In this context, the Commission is currently carrying out an impact assessment analysing how to set proportionate, coherent and effective terms of access to the EU public procurement markets for foreign goods, services and companies. EU initiatives for the enforcement of EU rules on freedom of movement for workers. The objective of the consultation is to assess how to best ensure the enforcement of the right to free movement of workers and contribute to the removal of obstacles. The European Commission wishes to obtain input from relevant stakeholders and citizens for possible future initiatives and actions in this regard. NEWS Scientific information in the digital age. In late 2011, the European Commission intends to adopt a Communication and Recommendation on access to and preservation of digital scientific information. The Communication will take stock of the developments in the area of scientific information, and set out the actions that the Commission intends to take on open access to publications and data in the context of research projects funded by the Union budget. NEW Consultation on promoting Social Investment Funds as part of the Social Business Initiative. The consultation seeks feedback on possible options for aiding social businesses by means of investments from private individuals channelled through investment funds. Investment funds are an established mechanism for matching investors and those seeking investments, and could help social businesses get funding. NEW Modernising the Professional Qualifications Directive. The consultation is aimed at gathering stakeholders’ views on a modernisation of the Professional Qualifications Directive.This Directive, adopted in 2005, sets the rules for mutual recognition of professional qualifications between Member States. The reform of the system of recognition of professional qualifications as a means to facilitate mobility is one of the priority actions proposed by the Commission in the Single Market Act. With the view to preparing this reform, the Commission wishes to consult stakeholders on new approaches to mobility; ways to build on achievements and on the modernisation of the automatic recognition.
