An article in the Financial Times has reported that donations to charities and community foundations fell in 2009, as the financial crisis continues to take its toll.

The article cites statistics from a recent survey by Commonfund, which revealed that of the 43 community foundations surveyed, 55 per cent reported a decrease in giving in 2009, while 16 per cent reported an increase. In 2008, 61 per cent reported decreases and 31 per cent reported increases.
