EESC calls for a level playing field for foundations in Europe
(14/10/2009 )

At its plenary session on 1 October 2009, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted the own-initiative opinion on “diverse forms of enterprise” drafted by the EESC, and EFC member Miguel Angel Cabra de Luna, Director of Social and International Relations of Fundación ONCE. The report, for which the EFC secretariat provided its input, recognises the role of foundations to Europe’s economic and social dimensions and advocates the adoption of a European Statute for foundations as well as for other improvements of the framework in which foundations and other social economy organisations operate.

The objective of the opinion is to highlight the diversity of forms of enterprise that are found in the European Union and their added-value . It also advocates for a legal framework, and a competition policy, that create a genuine level playing field for all the different forms of enterprise whilst taking into consideration the
characteristics of each of them.
