'A Decade of European Support to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria'  (12/01/2012  )

Organised by:
Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
From 31/01/2012  to 31/01/2012
Paris

In 2012, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will celebrate its 10th anniversary, and the remarkable results that have been achieved in the fight against these three diseases in the world’s poorest countries over the past decade.

Europe plays a major role in global health and in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and constitutes the largest donor to the Global Fund, contributing more than half of its resources.

To recognise the European commitment to developing countries in the fight against the three diseases, progress achieved during the past 10 years, and the important work done by the Global Fund and its partners in achieving these results, the Global Fund and Friends of the Global Fund Europe are hosting:

A Decade of European Support to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

on January 31st, 2012, from 15:30

Pavillon Gabriel, 5 avenue Gabriel 75008 – Paris (FRANCE)

The ceremony will bring together European policy makers, representatives of international organisations, as well as participants from the public and private sectors, the research community and non-governmental organisations.

This will be an opportunity to think back to 2002, when the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created under the auspices of the United Nations, with the support of several of the world’s richest countries, including France.

Since then, the innovative model of the Global Fund has dramatically transformed the governance of global health and, given the results achieved so far, there is real hope that the health-related Millennium Development Goals will be achieved in 2015.
