Title -“Second programme of Community action in the field of health (2008-2013)” – Strand 2 – Increasing healthy life years and promoting healthy ageing
Aim
The second Health Programme is intended to complement, support and add value to the policies of the Member States and to contribute to increased solidarity and prosperity in the European Union. The Programme's objectives are:
- To improve citizens' health security;
- To promote health, including the reduction of health inequalities and
- To generate and disseminate health information and knowledge.
The programme is funded by the European Commission and it started on the 1 January 2008 and ends on the 31 December 2013. The maximum rate of EU co-funding for a project is 60% of the eligible costs but this may go up to 80 % if a proposal meets the criteria for exceptional utility. The following calls listed below have an overall deadline of 9 March 2012.
Within the work programme 2012, the amount reserved for the call for projects is 13.171.820€ covering two strands:
Strand 1 - Protect citizens against health threats — Develop risk management capacity and procedures, improve preparedness and planning for health emergencies
Strand 2 – Increasing healthy life years and promoting healthy ageing that includes the following actions:
- Support to the European Innovation Partnership on active and Healthy ageing. The following call is designed to increase healthy life years and promote healthy ageing. The amount of funding available for this call is 4,021,820 €
- Local community including school based initiatives to prevent overweight and obesity among children and adolescents. The amount of funding available for this call is 1,200,000 €
- Good practice and working methods to support healthy choices and enhance life skills to prevent alcohol-related harm integrated into regular youth activities or through peer support. This component should result in a better overview of good practices and methods to prevent alcohol related harm. The amount of funding available for this call is 500,000 €.
- Benchmark comprehensive cancer care that provides interdisciplinary treatment for patients, and yield examples of best practice in comprehensive cancer care. The amount of funding available for this call is 500,000€
- Preventing chronic diseases. This call will examine the cost-effectiveness of integrated approaches to chronic disease prevention with a particular focus on diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or respiratory diseases. The amount of funding available for this call is 1,400,000 €.
- Support for European rare diseases information networks. This will involve the setting up of new rare disease registers or rare disease information networks. The amount of funding available for this call is 4,500,000€.
All projects should provide high European added value and be innovative in nature. Their duration should normally not exceed three years.
Eligible applicants
Applicants must meet the evaluation criteria set out in Annex II of the 2012 work plan. A list of applicants and projects granted in the past years is available at the following link.
Eligible Countries
The Programme is open to the 27 Member States of the European Union, the European Economic Area (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway). Other third countries, in particular European neighbourhood policy countries, countries applying for, countries that are candidates for, or are acceding to membership of the EU and the western Balkan countries may participate in the programme provided that the necessary agreements are in place. Of these countries Croatia has concluded these arrangements and participates in the programme.
