The 15th International Metropolis Conference entitled ' Justice and migration: Paradoxes of belonging' will take place from 4 to 8 October 2010 in The Hague, The Netherlands.
The question of belonging is a key question in contemporary societies due to international migration and mobility of people across borders and their subsequent participation in the host society. Governments are faced with different and
sometimes competing forms of belonging in their population. Questions about the legitimacy of citizenship claims can loom large depending on how states and citizens perceive migrants and how the meaning of citizenship is constructed.
The conference will address various aspects of belonging, including opportunities and challenges they pose in the context of perceptions of legitimacy and processes of migration and integration. Policy implications will also be addressed. The conference aims to promote a better understanding of how governments and international bodies contend with different forms of belonging in multicultural societies in the context of a globalised world.
The conference will bring together policy makers, administrators and representatives NGOs as well as academic researchers to dicuss international migraion and urban management issues.
