Measuring Impact on the Well-being of Children and Youth
(30/07/2010 )

New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) is developing an online tool, entitled 'Well-being Measure', to enable funders to measure their impact on the well-being of children and youth.

The pilot tool provides organisations with a simple, reliable and academically-robust way of understanding the difference they make to the lives of children aged 11 to 16 years old. NPC’s well-being measure evaluates seven aspects of young people’s subjective well-being:

  • self-esteem
  • resilience
  • emotional health
  • quality of relationships with peers
  • quality of relationships with family
  • satisfaction with school
  • satisfaction with community

To date, five charities have piloted NPC’s well-being measure, testing that it is reliable, sensitive to change and user-friendly. NPC plans to develop and adapt this tool for young people with specific needs and, in future, for different age groups.

The Well-being Measure will be available online in late 2010 and will be a subscription service, allowing funders to collect and analyse their own data. Subscribers will receive a clear and concise report of their results.

Further information is available at the NPC website
