The European Commission’s public consultation on a European Foundation Statute (EFS) has resulted in strong support from the non-profit sector. On 10 November 2009 the Commission published respondents’ individual contributions as well as a synthesis of the responses received, see the European Commission's webpage
Key outcomes are as follows:
- The report indicates that the consultation generated a large number of responses, especially from the non-profit sector. The Commission received 226 responses from 27 countries. By far the highest number of responses came from foundations, charities and trusts (87%).
- Most of the respondents considered the European Foundation Statute as the preferable policy option.
- Regarding the content of the EFS, a majority of the respondents were of the view that a Statute should be as comprehensive as possible and refer back to national laws in as few cases as possible.
- Respondents agree that equal tax treatment of national and European foundations should be guaranteed.
The EFC is preparing a statement regarding the outcomes of the consultation.
