Plans by the Charity Commission to carry out public benefit assessments on private hospitals and health care charities have been scrapped, following concerns over costs.
In December last year, it was announced that the Charity Commission would carry out a round of public benefit assessments on sports charities and charities working for the advancement of health, to check if these organisations could demonstrate that they have charitable purposes and operate for the public benefit , as is required by the Charities Act 2006.
