This year, at the fifth Opinion Festival, EFC member Open Estonia Foundation will organise  a discussion called ‘Civil Society in Europe – Who, Why and How Should Be Mobalized?’

This discussion will see three leading activists from Hungary, Poland and Germany take the floor and present three different case studies:

  • Mass rallies against Hungarian PM Viktor Orban
  • Poland’s Black Friday protests
  • Germany’s approach to the refugee crisis

At the same time, Estonia and its organised civil society is struggling with getting peoples engagement beyond Facebook activism. Examples of this will be presented to the three leading activists who will use their experience to analyse Estonia’s situation. Taking advantage of the available expertise the aim is to create ideas and solutions on how to uphold European Values.

This discussion will follow an innovative format of presentation and analysing different case studies followed by panel discussions and interactive discussions and crowd-sourcing ideas from the public!

Opinion Festival aims to improve opinion culture and civic education. Open to all active-minded people in Estonia as well as further afield, it is a gathering of those who would like to discuss issues that are important for all of us.

Uniting all sectors and groups, it is a place to exchange ideas on the organisation of society to get fresh ideas and new insights. All discussions enable a balanced and constructive exchange of ideas through many different formats including panel discussions, workshops, debates, world cafes and many other innovative ways!
