After the 6 successful seminars organised in 2016, we are pleased to announce that the Academy of European Law (ERA) will continue to organise a new series of seminars devoted to EU Disability Law and the United Nation Convention on the Rights of People with Disability (UN CRPD). Six new seminars will be organised in the framework of the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme 2014-2020. The series is in cooperation with the European Commission and with the support of the European Foundation Centre (EFC) and the European Disability Forum (EDF).

The UN CRPD is an important tool for promoting human rights of people with disabilities. The Convention does not state new rights but elaborates and clarifies existing obligations, providing the accepted global legal standards on disability rights. The correct implementation of the disability provisions in EU legal acts in line with the UN CRPD is instrumental for the enjoyment by persons with disabilities of their rights and their participation in society on equal basis with others.

The seminars will offer participants* the opportunity to understand the key principles and concepts included in the UN CRPD and its relationship to EU law and national law. European legal acts which refer to matters governed by the Convention will also be analysed. All seminars will combine presentations by experts in the field and interactive workshops.

Please find below the list of upcoming events. Further information will be provided in due course. Please check ERA website for updates or contact Silvia Balmas (SBalmas@efc.be) for more information.

* Note: Participation on selection. No conference fee. Selected participants will receive a contribution to their travel and accommodation costs (maximum of 360 euros and 2 hotel nights).
