The EFC Research Forum has launched a new publication with the highlights of last year’s conference titled “Change makers – Enabling High-Impact Research”. The conference was hosted by Wellcome Trust in London over the course of 2 days and focused on how the landscape for impact is changing, and identifying emerging pathways to impact from both the supply side of researchers and funders, and the demand side of policymakers, decision makers and other users of evidence and expertise. There was a particular focus on the role of foundations in designing, enabling and evaluating high-impact research.
The report itself highlights some of the key contributions of a broad range of speakers including; Peter Piot, the Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, who spoke of learning lessons from epidemics; Ulrike Felt, the Professor of Science and Technology Studies at the University of Vienna who spoke of striking a balance between curiosity driven research and research that has a clear impact on the public; as well as many case-studies from foundations.
The dates for the Next Research Forum Conference will be 17-18 October 2018, and hosted by VolkswagenStiftung in Hannover, Germany.
