On 21 November, EFC and DAFNE representatives met with first Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, and member of cabinet, Thomas Zerdick, to exchange first thoughts on a policy agenda for Europe’s philanthropy sector.  Constructive feedback was received, which will help to shape a joint EFC/DAFNE advocacy roadmap based on the joint study ‘‘Enlarging the Space for European Philanthropy” which will be released in January 2018, and details the landscape of philanthropy’s operating space.

Thomas Zerdick also confirmed that first Vice-President Timmermans is the best contact in the European Commission for the concerns and requests of Europe’s philanthropy sector. In today’s landscape, Timmermans is, in particular, concerned about the civil society situation in Hungary, Poland and Romania and asked for input from the perspective of philanthropic institutions.
