The Third Sector Foundation of Turkey (TUSEV) recently published the Individual Giving and Philanthropy in Turkey report. This comprehensive publication presents up-to-date data on perception on philanthropy, trends and motivations in individual giving in Turkey, as well as comparisons on the change in the understanding on philanthropy and giving practices in the last decade.
Highlights of the findings include:
- When individuals were asked whether they preferred to give directly to those in need or through an organization, 88% said directly while 12% stated that they preferred to give through an organization
- There is a persistent lack of trust between individuals and organisations
- When individuals do give directly, Turkish people continue to prioritise relatives and fellow townspeople in their philanthropic giving
