The EDP foundation is a private, non-profit making institution and was set up by EDP -Energias de Portugal, S.A. in December 2004. The foundation has reinforced the EDP Group's commintment to solidarity that it has followed since it was set up and reflects a concern for asserting its modernity and supporting important causes in Portugal.
• To foster knowledge of science and technology in the areas of energy and the environment, preserving their historical heritage • To sponsor and promote initiatives that help to strengthen the three dimensions of sustainable development - environment, economic and social • To promote access to culture in general and the arts in particular • To ensure greater insertion of the EDP Group in the community

The foundation also aims to convert the campus at the Tejo Power Station into a scientific and cultural unit, placing a well-located area in Lisbon at the dosposal of the artistic, scientific, cultural and education communities and of the general public as well.
