 EFC Research Forum

Purpose

The EFC Research Forum (Forum) provides a platform for research-funding foundations to learn, collaborate and advocate together.  Its mission is to facilitate more effective philanthropic support for research through transnational cooperation and information exchange and to create a sustainable, broad-based network of independent research-funding foundations in Europe.

Current member foundations are: Robert Bosch Stiftung (Chair), "la Caixa" Foundation, Stiftelsen Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lundbeckfonden, VolkswagenStiftung, Wellcome Trust, Fundación Barrié, Foundation for Polish Science, European University Association, Fondazione Cariplo.

Activities

In order to achieve its objectives, the Forum:

• Organises regular Stakeholders’ Conferences on topics of current interest to the broader research community
• Convenes ad hoc working groups to explore issues of particular concern to research-funding foundations in depth
• Hosts peer-learning workshops and seminars

Background

The Forum is one of the follow-up initiatives to the European Conference and Expert Group Report on the role of foundations and the non-profit sector in boosting investment in research and innovation. It was launched in 2007 as the “European Forum for Philanthropy and Research Funding”.
