Issues in focus

The link between the environmental situation and motivation for displacement is not new, but how is climate change currently impacting migration patterns? Will this phenomenon challenge solidarity in Europe and across the world? If so, is the philanthropic sector ready to fund preventative actions? The aim of the session is to identify possible roles for philanthropy in better understanding the complexities of this issue in order to find adequate responses. After a brief look at the most recent and important data concerning environmental migration, discussion will focus on the framework of the phenomenon and its causes, as well as best practices of prevention and anticipation initiatives.
