Svenska Kulturfonden was established by the Svenska Folkpartiet to provide for the specific cultural needs of the Swedish-speaking population in Finland.

The foundation awards grants in support of educational institutions, associations, unions and institutions with cultural interests and purposes, as well as individual scientific, literary and artistic activities. In addition to its grantmaking activities, the foundation initiates research projects, organises conferences on varying themes for key groups within educational and cultural life, and awards a number of prizes each year. Support is provided for the small company, Kinoscreen Illusion, to revitalise the import and distribution to Finland of films for children and young people from the other Nordic countries.
