EFC Children and Youth Thematic Network webinar – Children’s rights in the digital age
The EFC’s Children and Youth Thematic Network will hold a webinar “Children’s rights in the digital age” on 29 September.
Most technologies are designed by adults for adults, but around the world technologies are increasingly becoming integrated into the lives of children and young people. Children visiting Disney World in the US are required to scan their fingerprints to enter the park; children in India are registered on digital identity systems to access social services and children around the world play with interactive and robotic toys at home. One in three internet users globally is a child, and devices and services such as YouTube Kids, Google, Alexa and social media platforms like TikTok, are becoming a key feature of their lives. So, what are the consequences on children’s rights in these scenarios? How are children using these new technologies to learn, exchange and communicate with their peers? How much are children being used by the technology itself?
This webinar will discuss some of the challenges that the digital world is posing to children and young people’s rights and provides the audience with critical points to reflect on the wider issue. Participants will have the opportunity to share their takes and experiences and to participate to the conversation with the speakers.
This event is by invitation only.
