EFC Research Forum Conference 2022 – Eradicating inequality in science – What is the role for foundations?
Inequality in science is on the rise and comes in many different forms from gender inequality, socio-economic inequality, geographical differences, and discrimination between basic science versus translational science or hard science versus social science.
The Covid- 19 pandemic has exacerbated this situation as it has not affected all scientists equally. According to a survey run by Nature, female scientists and researchers with young children experienced a substantial decline in time devoted to research throughout the pandemic, a side effect of the pandemic with a potential long-term impact on their careers. An open discussion within the philanthropic sector, as one of the key players in the field, is more necessary than ever.
What are the drivers for positive change that could reduce inequality in science? How could funders proactively help to eradicate these structural problems?
Registrations will open in September 2021.
