In response to measures by the Hungarian government against the Central European University’s (CEU) operations in Budapest, in addition to the recent news of CEU’s relocation to Vienna, Momentum have organised a series of demonstrations across Europe in support of CEU on the 15th and 16th of November.
The demonstrations on the 16th November will take place in:
- Berlin, Bebelplatz
- Budapest, Egyetem tér
- Copenhagen, Øregårdsvænget 9
- the Hague, Turfmarkt 110
- London, Hungarian Consulate, 35B Eaton Place
- Munich, Friedensengel Europaplatz 1
- Paris, Place de la République
The series of measures and requirements stipulated to CEU by the Hungarian government, dubbed as the ”Lex CEU”, have culminated in CEU’s forced relocation to Vienna in the face of impossible conditions in Budapest.
These measures constitute nothing less than attacks on academic freedom, and the EFC was one of 45 organisations to recently condemn them in an open letter ”A Time to Stand Together” supporting CEU, which came just over two weeks after the university had hosted the EFC’s Grantmakers East Forum (GEF) in Budapest.
