To coincide with the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, the Aydin Doğan Foundation, together with UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Woman and the UN Gender Thematic Working Group, is holding an international conference in Istanbul with the aim of highlighting the unique challenges and potential of adolescent girls. By strategically holding the conference on the Day of the Girl Child, the conference intends to be a platform for continued momentum in mobilising actions and resources on important issues such as gender equity and empowerment.

Entitled “Empowered Girls, Empowered Future: Inclusive and quality education, an end to child marriage”, the conference aims to to provide a space for dialogue among partners to discuss and agree on a road map to 2030 to empower girls especially focusing on girl’s access to quality and continuous education, ending child marriage and introducing innovative practices to shape social norms and bring about behavioural change at family and community level.

The 1½ day conference will consist of plenary presentations and discussions with senior government representatives, international experts, UN, other international organisation participants, national and international civil society representatives, academia, children and youths.

The Conference will also include interactive dialogue with adolescents and youths to ensure that their concerns and recommendations for accelerating girls’ empowerment will be heard and taken into account by policymakers and other key stakeholders.

The conference will be in English and Turkish with simultaneous translations.  If you are interested in attending, please email Candan Fetvacı of Aydın Doğan Vakfı – candanfetvaci@advakfi.org.
