Resistance and Resilience
In 2016 the Levi Strauss Foundation came together with Mama Cash and the Urgent Action Fund to document and analyse the challenges faced by feminists groups operating in countries where civic space had become severely restricted. The resulting report highlighted the disproportionate impact of the shrinking space for women’s and trans people’s activism and led to Mama Cash creating the initiative.
Since the end of 2018, the initiative has been providing tailor-made, individualised support to grantee-partners that are confronting the effects of closing space for civil society in their daily work. The initiative firstly aids the grantees in assessing their own security and well-being needs, and then supports the work of a consultant selected by the grantee to aid in implementing their work.
