From 17 – 20 October 2016, the United Nations Member States will gather in Quito (Ecuador) for HABITAT 3 , a conference that aims “to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable urban development, assess accomplishments to date, address poverty and identify and address new and emerging challenges. The conference will result in a concise, focused, forward-looking and action-oriented outcome document.” We live in a time of rapid urbanisation and by 2050 an estimated 70% of the global population will live in cities.

Aiming to support stakeholders’ engagement and contributions to the conference the General Assembly of Partners (GAP) was created, consisting of 14 Partner Constituent Groups (PCG) with members from the United Nations’ major groups and other relevant stakeholders.

Two EFC members, Fundación Avina and the Ford Foundation, have taken up the challenge to increase participation in this process and are inviting foundations and other philanthropic organisations to join the GAP Partner Constituent Group. The EFC will provide support to Avina and Ford by collaborating both in communication activities and in the organisation of some specific events. The Funders’ Forum on Sustainable Cities will also be submitting an input paper before the Habitat III conference, foundations wishing to be involved should write to the email address below.
