Early in December, Danish children and youth organisation BØRNEfonden and leading girls rights NGO Plan Denmark decided to merge to create an even greater influence and change for children and young people in Africa.
Each year BØRNEfonden supports three million people in building a better future, focusing of children’s health and education as well as employability and entrepreneurship, while Plan International Denmark is one of the largest humanitarian organisations advancing children rights and equality in 73 countries.
In combining forces there will a greater impact in fighting for equality between boys and girls, and the development of strong communities for marginalised youth around the world.
“This is an incredibly exciting and innovative opportunity to build on the best of both organisations, with their complementary and distinctive strengths and capabilities,” said Christine Bosse, chairman of BØRNEfonden, and Allan Fenger, chairman of Plan International Denmark, in a joint statement. “Together, we can do more where the need is greatest, giving children a voice, particularly girls, and changing lives and social norms for the better. We are local and we are global. We are stronger together.”
The new organisation will be named Plan BØRNEfonden and will become the largest privately funded organisation in Denmark with almost 70,000 sponsorships. It will also become part of Plan International, an international and independent development and humanitarian organisation with an annual turnover of DKK 6.3 billion in 2016.
By joining together, these organisation can make a bigger impact in changing the lives of vulnerable children in the aim to end extreme poverty, realising the rights and potential of children around the world.
