EFC member Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) has recently approved a grant totalling €1.7 million for the renovation of five dormitory buildings of the Hellenic Army Academy. The grant, as part of the grant making SNF does in its support of Greek society, will also go towards supporting the academy’s educational programs, specifically in relation to foreign exchange and MA programs.
On the 28th August 2018, the Co-President of SNF, Mr Andreas Dracopolous, as part of the foundations grant evaluations, attended tactical exercises in a visit to the Hellenic Army General Staff at Loutraki, which aimed to highlight the role of the Armed Forces in supporting civil society during emergency situations. Mr Dracopolous was later presented with a collection of authentic Hellenic medals, from both past and present, by Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis to honour both the SNF and his own philanthropic work in relation to the Hellenic Armed Forces and Greek society.
In a statement given at the event Mr. Dracopoulos stated: “We would like to thank the staff of the Engineer Directorate for the program, which demonstrated the multidimensional role of the Army, as well as the high level of staff training. The social aspect of the Army’s role is not limited to emergency situations, but it actively supports the development of local communities as well. As such, any further utilization of the Army’s existing services and forces can positively contribute to the empowerment of Greek society and its citizens”.
